Starting the week with with a bang ()or should that be bang, bang, bang!) we’re pleased to report that the latest A&K M249 models have recently arrived with our friends at iWholesales, and these are the polymer-bodied “midweight” versions that we’ve been expecting to see for a little while!
A&K has been in business for more than a decade and offer a huge selection of popular rifle models as well as unique platforms like Machine Guns, SMGs, DMRs, and even Wild West lever-action replicas! We’ve had a number of their models over the years, and generally speaking they’ve given GREAT service, even though their M60 and PKM are real beasts to lug around for a full day’s play! In a nutshell though, A&K provide a great lineup of airsoft products at a good price, one that suits the wallet of many players well, especially when it comes to support guns.
Although many would argue that in a skirmish setting the additional weight and length of a support gun gives little real benefit over a regular AEG with a drum or box mag, there’s still something that sings to us about having the correct model for the correct job, and now that A&K have created their popular M249 series but with a polymer rather than a metal body, the “weight/length” question becomes somewhat moot, especially in the case of the “Para” version pictured.
The A&K M249 “midweight” series falls in line with the standard metal M249’s by shedding weight in key areas to reduce each guns weight by several pounds. Midweight M249’s still retain A&K M249 gearboxes keeping them upgradeable with all compatible gearbox parts, but, and it’s a big “but”, the latest models feature a high-strength, weight-saving polymer receiver, dust cover, handguard, heat shield and gas block along with aluminum outer barrel, steel carry handle and steel folding bipod!
Although there are different models on offer, the specifications for the “Para” model are:
Length: 790mm / 920mm (Retracted / Extended)
Weight: 10.8 lbs (4.9kg)
Inner Barrel: 363mm

If you’re looking for a new support gun that you can happily field all day long, then the new A&K Polymer M249s could be exactly the thing you’ve been waiting for, and they should be hitting stores now!
